Chapter 14
Amber Hill
“Do you know where your friend would likely go?” Lance asks.
“Probably to a town nearest to where I shooed him off.” I say once again feeling extreme guilt.
“Well there are only two towns even close to here so he would probably be there.” Lance turns the horse and we ride until dark the next day. We come upon a city.
“Wow.” I say shocked at what I’m seeing.
“The city of Amber Hill was built at the base of a mighty mountain and is truly a state-of-the-art metropolis. Its grace is matched by the backdrop of a gentle mountain which have helped shape the city to what it is today.
The trade resources these mountains brought were of great importance, but they were also influential when it came to architectural designs as the vast majority of buildings have been built in the shape of those same mountains.” Lance tells me about some of the history of this city.
“It’s bigger than expected!” I say. Lance laughs. I look around.
“Where should we start?” Lance asks.
“I was thinking the same thing to myself. “ I say disappointed. “This is going to be harder than we thought.”
“We could start by going into some small businesses and see if he is working.” Lance suggests.
“Okay.” I agree. We get of the horse and tie her. We start going into cafes and small businesses. I describe Eddie and ask If they have seen him. We go place to place with no luck.
“I give up.” I say.
“Just a couple more places!” Lance says encouragingly. The next place we go into is a blacksmith called Blackstone Forge. We walk through the door. We go to the front desk. There is no one there. Lance rings the bell. We wait until finally someone comes to the desk.
“Welcome to Blackstone Forge, how may I help you?”
“Eddie!” I say. “It’s you.” He looks up and pauses. He stares at Lance. I look at Lance. He is staring at Eddie.
“Lance this is the friend I told you about.” I say. Lance doesn’t move. “Eddie, This is..”
“The king killed you!” Eddie says interrupting.”
“He said you were killed while trying to kill him.” Lance responds. Eddie comes out from behind the counter. He grabs Lance and the 2 hug.
“Um, I am confused.” I say. Eddie looks at me. He comes over to me and kisses me tenderly.
“Remember when I told you about my brother?” He asks. I look at the two of them. They looks similar.
“Wait, You are brothers?” I ask surprised. The boys nod.
“Beatrice. I want you to know the king can’t touch you here.” Eddie says.
“What do you mean? You know he will do anything in his power to get me back.” I say.
“That’s the thing. Amber Hill Isn’t the king’s. It is the first city to declare independence. We have a ruler who only rules over us.” Eddie hugs me.
“I’m safe here!” I exclaim. “I can have my own life!”
“I hope you two love birds let me join you here.” Lance laughs. We all laugh. Eddie and i hold hands.
“You will be my best man in my wedding right?” Eddie asks. I let go of his hand.
“Oh, You found a nice girl here?” I ask a little hurt.
“Yup.” Eddie kisses me again. “She is right here.” I smile.
“Ick. That is so mushy.” Lance says pretending to barf.
“Yes I will marry you Eddie!” I say. Eddie kisses me tenderly again.
“Good. Because otherwise I would have had to tickle you.” He says.
“You wouldn’t dare.” I say.
“No he wouldn’t because I’m standing right here, and I don't want to barf.” Lance says. I smile. Eddie and Lance link arms and we walk down the street to Eddie’s house. But one thing is running through my mind. Is Eddie right? Am I safe from the king here?
