Faith's Song: Chapter 2

Chapter 2
When I woke up in the morning fear tore through me. It took me a minute to remember where I was. I hopped out of bed. I opened the door, Mrs. Lorine was standing there, about to knock.
“Why, good morning dear!” She exclaimed. “You have a foster family waiting for you.” She handed me a bowl of strawberries. I followed her into the entry, eating. All the other girls were lined up there. I saw a family of four sitting in the chairs by the wall. This family included a mother, a father, and twin boys about the age of five. The boys were fighting over a toy. The parents stood up when they saw me. Mss. Lorine brought me over to them.
“Hello faith!” The mother said cheerfully.
“Hey kid!” the father looked me over. I looked at them and then at the twins.
“The twins’ names are Leo and Axel.” The mother said, smiling happily at me.
“You can call us Mom and Dad.” The father said.
“No.” I said quietly.”
“What did you just say?” The father glared at me.
“I won’t call you Mom and Dad. I have parents.” I said a little louder.
“Actually you don’t have parents. They are dead.” He chuckled a little. His wife whacked his arm.
“Boys it’s time to go.” The mother said. The father turned to Miss. Lorine.
“We won’t be fostering this child after all.” With that, the family was gone. Miss. Lorine turned to me.
“Faith, If you want a family you will have to act better than that.” She said sternly. I hung my head. “Do you know how to read?” Miss. Lorine asked. I nodded. Miss. Lorine’s face lit up. She went over to her bookshelf and grabbed a book. She came back and handed it to me.
“Go read in your room. I will see if I can find you another family.” I did as I was told. I brought the book to my room I sat on my bed and examined the cover. It was dark blue with stars. The title was ‘Traitor Of The Stars’. I opened it and started reading. I had gotten through ten chapters, when Miss. Lorine came into the room.
:”Another family is on their way. I made some lunch.” She said. I set my book down and went to eat. I ate with all the girls. I sat quietly as the other girls chattered. When I was done eating, I waited in the entry. A few minutes later a couple walked in.
“Are you faith?” The woman asked. I nodded and looked at her. She was short, but taller than me. Her hair was dyed a crimson color. Her eyes so light they almost looked silver. Then the man stepped forward. He didn’t seem as intimidating as the last man.
“I’m Noah, and this is my wife Olivia.” The man was tall. His hair light brown and he had a thin beard.
“She doesn’t speak much. I think once she spends enough time with you, and starts to trust you she will become less shy,” Miss. Lorine said. Olivia stepped forward and took my hand.
“Let’s go home,” She said. We walked outside and I saw their car. It was a red convertible Lamborghini. I looked up at them. I smiled.
“Maybe my life won’t be so bad after all.” I thought to myself. Noah helped me climb into the back seat, before getting in the driver's seat. When we were all buckled he took off. The top was off the car, so I felt the wind in my hair. I wanted the car ride to last forever but within minutes the car stopped. We were parked outside a cozy modern home. It was two stories. The outside was a white siding. Widows were placed strategically making for a gorgeous house. As we walk through the front door I gasped seeing how beautiful the inside was. All the furniture was corresponding brown colors. The house was equipped with a modern kitchen and two bathrooms. It also had a small living room, four bedrooms, a snug dining room, a multimedia room and a large garage. Noah glanced at his watch.
“I have a meeting to get to.” He said. He pecked Olivia on the cheek before heading back outside.
“I’ll show you your room.” Olivia said. She brought me past the kitchen through a hallway to my room. My room had pastel blue walls. The floors were carpeted with white carpet. The bed was beautiful. It was against the wall with the door. The frame a dark wood. The bedspread was light pink with polka dots of blue. I gawked at the beautiful room. Then my eyes caught something. On a dresser on the far wall.
“Does that play music?”  I ask Olivia. Shocked to hear me speak she looked at me a moment before realizing what I had just said.
“Oh, Yes! Do you like music?” She asked. I nodded. Olivia smiled and turned on the radio. I smiled. I sat on my bed and listened to the music. Olivia left the room. I sat there just listening. I cried when I heard a song that was about death and how it’s all going to be okay. Olivia rushed to my room. She turned the radio off and sat down beside me. She held me close. I tried holding back my tears. I had gotten good at it. Whenever my father was drunk, if he saw me crying he would yell at me and then lock me in my room until the next morning. It didn’t matter to him if I missed school, or if I missed a few meals. Olivia sensed I was holding back.
“It’s okay precious. You can let it all out.” She said stroking my hair. I went limp in her arms. For the first time in a long time, I felt safe. We sat on my bed for a while. Olivia didn’t let go until she heard the front door open.
“Noah is home from work.” She stood up. Terror shook me. Thoughts filled my head of when my father came home from work. I slid off the bed onto the floor. Olivia tried to help me up but I screamed at her.
“No! Don’t touch me!”’ Olivia left the room to go see Noah. I rocked back and forth holding my knees. When Noah came in the room I tensed up. Noah came and sat next to me. He grabbed my hand. I thought he was going to hurt me, but he just sat there and held my hand. I had never experienced anything like this. My mom had always loved me, but she never showed it. Especially around Dad. Noah sat with me until I calmed down. We ate a late dinner and i went back to my room. Noah Followed me and sat with me for a while again.
“Well, I bet you are tired. It’s been a long day.” Noah stood up. There are some clothes in the dresser.” Noah shut the door on his way out. I went over to the dresser and opened the top drawer. I found a pair of fuzzy pajamas. They were pink with unicorns on them. I heard a knock on my door so I put the pajamas on the bed and opened the door.
“Hey honey!” Olivia said. “I was just wondering, would you like to shower before bed?” I looked at her surprised. Back at home I only got to shower before special occasions.
“May I?” I asked trying to be polite.
“Of course!” Olivia exclaimed gleefully. She grabbed my pajamas and headed across the hall. I followed her. I found myself gazing at the most beautiful bathroom. The counters were marble, the floors expensive looking tile. I listened to Olivia as she described how to work the shower. It was pretty simple. Pull, and turn. Once Olivia was done explaining she left. I turned the shower on and undressed. I hopped in and let the warm water run over me. I liked to imagine it was washing all the pain away.

After I was done with my shower, I got dressed and went to my room. I noticed Olivia had brought a digital clock in and set it on my dresser, next to the radio. Noticing the time said 11:00 I turned off my light and climbed into bed. The bed was comfortable and warm, but I couldn’t sleep. I felt alone once again. I felt scared. I didn’t know these people. I didn’t want to get attached to them for fear that they would be taken away too. Finally my mind drifted off to sleep.
