Faith's Song: Chapter 1

Chapter 1
The police Officer brought me to the police station. I took in the sights. The walls were a pasty white color. It was one big open room other than a couple offices in the back. The room was filled with wooden desks. I tried to count how many, but was too distracted. I didn’t say a word to anyone. I was afraid. Then a female officer came and sat down next to me. I read her name tag. Margaret Morris.
“Hello darling!” She said, smiling at me. “My name is Officer Morris. How are you doing?” I didn’t respond. I didn’t know what to say. “When I was your age, what always made me feel better was music.” She said kindly. Then she began to sing. Her voice was like that of an angel. I smiled as she sang. I got up off my chair and climbed into her lap. The police station was quiet. All the officers were listening intently to her voice. When Officer Morris finished her song, I looked at her.
“You have a really pretty voice.” I said quietly. The police station erupted in applause. Officer Morris ignored the applause. She stayed focused on me. It felt nice to be important.
“Would you like to sing with me?” She asked. I nodded. “What songs do you know?” I thought about that question for a while.
“I know Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
“Okay, let’s sing it.” We began to sing and I loved it. My Parents never liked music, so the only music I ever heard were the songs we sang at school. As we sang I heard Officer Morris stop singing. I just kept singing. I felt such joy. When I finished the song Officer Morris gave me a big hug. Then a Tall slender women came to talk to Officer Morris.
“She has to come with me. She is an orphan. She is to be placed In the foster care system until we can find her a forever home.” The Woman said her voice low.
“She has lost so much. Can’t you just give her time?” Officer Morris got angry. The woman shook her head.
“Officer I’m just doing my job.” The woman bent down so she was at my height.
“Would you Like to come with me honey?” She asked with a big smile on her face. I grabbed Officer Morris’ hand. I shook my head. The woman tried to keep a smile on her face but I could tell she was irritated. She took my hand out of Officer Morris’. I started to cry.
“I don’t know you! I don’t want to go with you!” I screamed. Throughout the building all eyes were on us as the woman pulled me away. She pulled me away from the one person I trusted. Once we got outside she stopped pulling me. She bent down to me again.
“If you ever do something like this again you will be in big trouble!” She hissed. The woman grabbed my bicep. She tugged me to a car. She opened the door and shoved me in the backseat. She walked around the car and got in the driver's seat. She started the car and we drove away. I sniffled holding back tears. The woman glanced in the mirror to look at me.
“Suck it up kid. Your parents are dead. There is nothing you can do about it. Crying isn’t going to bring them back.” She shook her head. I watched out the window as we drove away. We were leaving everything I knew. Little did I know, that would become normal. The car stopped at a big building. From the outside this house looks luxurious. It has been built with wood covered in render and had oak wooden decorations. Tall, wide windows let in plenty of light and had been added to the house. I sat in the car not certain of what to do. The woman got out of the car. She came and opened my door. We walked up to the front door. I saw a sign above the door. It said ‘Dreamland Orphanage.” We walked inside and we were met by and old lady.
“What’s your name?” She asked me in a kind voice. Before I could answer, the Womqan did for me.
“Her name is Faith. She is nine years old.” She said. The old lady smiled at me.
“So how long will she be here?” The old lady asked.
Until we find her a foster home. Looking at her, It could be a while.” The woman said. The old lady looked at her and frowned.
“I think she is beautiful.” She took my hand. “Let’s go get you a room and some clean clothes.” We went up the grand staircase. She brought me to a beautiful, pale colored room. The room was elegant everything expensive looking. On the bed was a purple comforter. There was a lamp next to the bed that was shaped like a diamond.  Miss. Lorine went to the closet and picked out a plain grey dress.  She went to the closet and picked out a plain grey dress.
“This should fit.” She said. She handed me the dress and pointed to the attached bathroom. I slid my clothes off. A bruise on my arm caught my attention. I sighed. That woman really had a strong grip. I slid the new dress on. It’ was a turtleneck. It had long sleeves and the bottom of the dress went to my toes. I picked up my old clothes and opened the door. I stepped back into the bedroom.
“You look beautiful!” The old lady said. “Now let’s introduce you to the other girls.” We walked down the stairs. The old lady stuck her fingers in her mouth and whistled. 10 girls came clamoring  down the stairs. They lined up in a straight line facing us.
“Girls, this is faith. Now each one of you step forward, say your name and age and step back.” the lady looked toward the first girl. A tall girl stepped forward.
“My name is Elaine, and I’m fifteen.” Elaine was tall and very slender. She had long unhealthy looking brown hair. Her eyes were a beautiful hazel.  The next girl stepped up.
“My name is Hannah, I’m four.” The little girl was adorable. She had blond hair and green eyes. She was holding her stuffed teddy bear.
“I’m Cora, I’m eight and a half.” Cora was about the same age as me but something about her made me think she was older. She had black hair with fair skin. Her eyes were very dark. She scared me so In my head I made a note to stay clear of her while I was here. The list went on. The old lady finally shooed the girls off.
“You can call me Miss. Lorine.” She said kindly. “Now let’s get you to bed.” Miss. Lorine showed me to a less elegant room than the one I had been in before. It was a drab tan color with a bed on the back wall and nothing else. The bed frame was a maple color. The bedspread was light blue. I missed my princess bedspread back home.  I walked into the room. Miss. Lorine shut the door behind me. The room was pitch black. I stood in the center of the room till my eyes adjusted. When I could see the frame of the bed, I went over to it and climbed in. I laid in that uncomfortable bed for a while. I was afraid. I was upset. I was grieving. I finally fell asleep with the sound of Officer Morris’ voice in my head.
